The ENEA Radiation Protection Institute for many years has been playing a reference role in Italy on external and internal dosimetry in the field of industrial and medical activities. A series of laboratories and facilities are operative in the field of neutron, photon and electron metrology, personal dosemeter development, whole body counting equipment development (especially in the field of bone-seeker nuclide measurements), and naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) measurements. In all these research and development activities Monte Carlo modeling demonstrated its increasingly important role as a valuable tool to support the experiments. Some examples of the wide range of these applications are briefly summarized in the present paper.
