The CESAR thermal-hydraulic module af ASTEC V1 .2 system code has been validated by the analysis of two BETHSY experiments. Starting from a PWR-like model of the BETHSY facility, possible improvements have been investigated by sensitivity studies and implemented in the original CESAR modelling of the BETHSY facility in order to better reproduce the test results. Steady-state calculations allow the achievement of stable conditions at the initiation of the transient in good agreement with the initial conditions of the tests. The behaviour of primary and secondary circuits during the experimental transient is in general well simulated by CESAR. The main reasons for the remaining discrepancies between Code results and test data have been pointed out.
