The ENEA-Bologna Nuclear Data Group produced the MATJEFF31.BOLIB multi-group coupled (199 n + 42gamma) cross section library in MATXS format, based on the JEFF-3.1 OECD/NEA Data Bank nuclear data library. The generation of MATJEFF3I.BOLIB for nuclear fission applications was conceived as an European counterpart of the ENDF/B-VI Release 3 VITAMIN-B6 American library. The present library has the same group structure and general features as VITAMIN-B6 and was produced using similar data processing methodologies, based on the NJOY-99.160 system with an ENEA-Bologna modified version of the GROUPR module. MATJEFF31.BOLIB is a pseudo-problem-independent library based on the Bondarenko (f-factor) method for the treatment of neutron resonance self-shielding and temperature effects. The library contains 176 nuclides processed at 4 temperatures (300 °K, 600 °K, 1000 °K and 2100 °K), obtained for the most part with 6 to 8 values for the background cross section. Thermal scattering cross sections were processed at all the temperatures available in the JEFF-3.1 thermal scattering law data file for 6 additional bound nuclides (11-1 in light water, H-1 in polyethylene, H-i in zirconium hydride, 11-2 in heavy water, C in graphite and Be in beryllium metal). A set of processed data, generated from the updated JEFF-3. 1.1 nuclear data library, was recently included. From MATJEFF31.BOLIB it is possible to generate, through the TRANSX-2.15 code, collapsed working libraries of self-shielded eross sections in GOXS and FIDO-ANISN format. MATJEFF31 BOLIB was extensively tested on many criticality benchmark experiments.
