The diffusion of TiO2-modified building materials has been constantly growing, especially in European countries, as attested by the number of publications, patents and international projects, with the aim of developing a suitable technology to oppose the increase in atmospheric pollution and the current depletion of natural resources. The work here presented focuses on the characterization of a self-cleaning and photocatalytic system for building façades, aimed at improving the optical performance and the aesthetics over time of urban surfaces and the surrounding air quality, as well as decreasing energy consumption for cooling in summer season. In facts, TiO 2-containing photoactive materials represent an appealing way to create self-cleaning surfaces, thus limiting maintenance costs, and to promote the degradation of polluting agents.
