Summarized in this paper is the state-of-the-art on seismic protection through innovative anti-seismic techniques, namely seismic isolation and passive energy dissipation . Included are remarks on the progress of R&D activities at word-wide level and design guidelines and information on the most recent applications of the aforesaid techniques.
