14C is a radionuclide of considerable interest in nuclear power production. Its 5730 years of half-life and a big mobility in the environment make it present in ali parts of nuclear reactor primary system. From there it pass to the environment through gaseous and liquid discharges and through the disposal of radioactive waste. This presentation summarize the life cycle of C14, from the production in various nuclear plants to the management and the disposal into waste typologies.

Abstract

14C is a radionuclide of considerable interest in nuclear power production. Its 5730 years of half-life and a big mobility in the environment make it present in ali parts of nuclear reactor primary system. From there it pass to the environment through gaseous and liquid discharges and through the disposal of radioactive waste. This presentation summarize the life cycle of C14, from the production in various nuclear plants to the management and the disposal into waste typologies.
