The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology has been applied to a first category landfill for the MSW and ASW. The HELP 3.07 and the LandGEM models have been used to estimate respectively the leachate (140.6 l/t) and the biogas (178 m3/t) quantities produced during the first 30 years of the landfill lifetime by 1 metric ton of waste. Then we have determined the inventory related to a life cycle which begins with the waste production and ends with the leachate treatment and the biogas flaring. LCA is performed by the SimaPro 3.1 code. From the results obtained by using the SimaPro Eco-indicator 30 method of evaluation we can observe that the damage due to the production of the waste is 98.7% of the total damage, the damage due to biogas and leachate is 0.2% of the total damage. The results have been compared with the ones obtained by using the leachate composition provided by the code database and the biogas composition provided by literature.
