According to the TRADE (TRiga Accelerator Driven Experiment) planning, the first experiments ,with the accelerator are not scheduled before around 2007-2008. However, an important feature of the TRIGA layout is the possibility to carry out, before the coupling with the accelerator, a propaedeutic experimental campaign by the insertion of a standard fixed neutron source into different core's positions, and performing static and dynamic measurements for different sub-criticality levels. An experimental program has been hence developed which requires a number of preliminary experiments to be performed. Such set of 'In-Pile Experiments' will provide a link with the MUSE experiments and will characterise the TRIGA sub-critical core from a physical point of view. As apart of the TRADE/Phase IA In-Pile Experimental Program, measurements for different levels of sub-criticality have been performed on the TRIGA RC-I reactor at the ENEA Casaccia Research Centre during the so. called 'TRADE Experimental Week 41-2003', 'TRADE Experimental Week 43-2003' and 'TRADE Experimental Week 22-2004'. Within the framework of the R&D activities related to the neutronic characterization of the TRIGA reactor, the aim of this work is to present a neutron-physics analysis relative to the analytical interpretation of these measurements by means of the Modified Source Multiplication Method (MSM). The experimental campaign has underlined the sensitivity of the TRIGA to core geopmetry changes and control rod perturbations and with this work we demonstrate that MSM factors can be used to correct the sensitivity of the TRIGA core. The computational procedure presented will become an important investigation methodology during the progress of the TRADE experiments and will also be required for understanding the sub-critical behaviour of a future Accelerator Driven System.
