Gamification is the use of game design elements in non-game contexts with the aim of motivating users and improving their productivity. It gave promising results when applied to many domains. However, analysts predict that most gamification systems are doomed to failure due to the lack of understanding of the gamification design process. Many attempts tried to propose design frameworks for gamification. Nevertheless, only few works were conducted to review the literature in this area of research. The present work is an attempt to review the literature for gamification design. It analyses and compares 28 candidate papers dealing with gamification design for generic application from different digital libraries.
