After the decision of the EU Council of Ministers in January 2007 to increase the share of renewable energies, biomass utilisation has to be seen in a new light: it is one of the few options which can provide a substantial part of this share in the near future. It is universal in its use, ranging from biofuel for mobile applications to heat and electricity in the stationary sector.
