The main objective of MICA is to define the R&D needs for the development of nuclear industry in different technical areas. For existing reactors, there are still important needs e.g. for severe accidents, for ageing and backfitting, but R&D is to be better focused on the main priorities. For future reactors, a stronger emphasis is to be put on innovation, which is the only way to make nuclear energy more flexible, in order to answer the challenge of keeping competitiveness, while satisfying increasing safety requirements, and to open new market segments corresponding to new needs. Finally MICA started the development of a strong partnership of European nuclear industry and research at the European level, with the emergence of a common culture.

Abstract
The main objective of MICA is to define the R&D needs for the development of nuclear industry in different technical areas. For existing reactors, there are still important needs e.g. for severe accidents, for ageing and backfitting, but R&D is to be better focused on the main priorities. For future reactors, a stronger emphasis is to be put on innovation, which is the only way to make nuclear energy more flexible, in order to answer the challenge of keeping competitiveness, while satisfying increasing safety requirements, and to open new market segments corresponding to new needs. Finally MICA started the development of a strong partnership of European nuclear industry and research at the European level, with the emergence of a common culture.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
