Some Phebus FP pre-test calculations, performed in the past with the IPSN code Jericho, confirmed that the thermal-hydraulic behaviour of the atmosphere within the vessel is controlled by its internal structure conditions. A correct modelling of this condenser and surrounding structures is crucial to accurately predict thermal-hydraulic conditions in the Phebus containment and to well analyse the data base available by Phebus test. Noncondensable gases in the vessel atmosphere can strongly affect the condensation rate. This is a key point, in fact the presence of hydrogen could limit the thermal-hydraulic control efficiency performed by the condenser. Abstract

Findings from some works recently performed by ENEA as a contribution to Pheben Programme, in the ambit of the 4th Framework Programme of EU, will be here presented and discussed. The Phebus vessel REPF502; its internal condenser and other structures are the targets of our work in this paper. Two computer codes, Jericho and the relatively recent Raloc, selected from ESTER, having different architecture, characteristics and capabilities, are the tools used for our investigations.
