In the frame of a collaboration with INFN-LNL (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro) FIS-NUC is taking partto the development of a target for the production of exotic nuclei. The proposed target is constituted by thin disks of uranium carbide where fissions are produced by means of a proton beam. The heat generated and deposited in the disks has to be removed by thermal radiation toward a tungsten box working at 2000 °C. The box is in turn cooled by radiation toward a surrounding chamber at about room temperature. Purpose of present work is to evaluate the thermal behaviour of such a system, i.e. to check the coolability of the disks against melting and to determine if the tungsten box has to be cooled or heated.
