The indentification of nonconventional water sources is discussed and a coherent methodology for implementing effective water savings in textile finishing is examined. The EU project TOWEFO (TOWards EFfluent zero) is introduced and subjected to a technical and economic evaluation. Physical/chemical and toxicological studies are also described. Guidelines to prevent and control pollution are considered.
